Electromagnetic Flow Meter Calibration Lab: Ensuring International Standards

Quick Answer: Silver Automation Instruments runs an electromagnetic flow meter calibration lab that follows ISO/IEC 17025. The lab handles pipe sizes from DN15 to DN600 with an expanded uncertainty of 0.2 percent. Every meter leaves with a traceable certificate that lists as-found and as-left data.

For calibration or certified flow meter pricing, send your pipe size (DN), flow range, pressure (bar), temperature (°C), and conductivity (µS/cm). Contact Silver Automation Instruments at Tel: +86-25-68650347, Whatsapp: +86-25-52155837, WeChat: +86 15365082610.

Why Calibration Accuracy Matters for Electromagnetic Flow Meters

Electromagnetic flow meters measure volumetric flow. A small deviation can cause billing errors or batch quality problems. In a water supply project in Vietnam, a DN300 meter that was not calibrated showed a 1.5 percent error. Over one year the customer lost more than 12,000 cubic meters of billed water.

Most engineers skip this part during procurement. We have seen this on customer sites many times. The meter arrives with a generic test report but no traceability. That report cannot support an audit or a custody transfer dispute.

Inside the Calibration Lab at Silver Instruments

The lab uses a gravimetric system and reference meters. The weighing tank has a capacity of 2,000 liters. The water pump supports flow rates from 0.05 m3/h to 3,000 m3/h. Water temperature stays at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C during the run.

We calibrate electromagnetic flow meters from DN15 to DN600. For DN15 to DN150, the SAI-EMF series is the standard choice. For DN200 to DN600, the SAI-EMF-L series covers larger pipe sizes. Conductivity can be set from 5 µS/cm to 20,000 µS/cm. That range matters for demineralized water, potable water, wastewater, and chemical feed lines.

The reference standards are traceable to a national metrology institute. Calibration runs include three flow points minimum. For fiscal metering we run five points. Each point repeats three times to check repeatability.

International Standards We Follow

Silver Instruments follows ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for lab competence. For meter testing we apply ISO 20456:2017 and OIML R 49-1:2013 where they apply. Some oil and gas customers also ask for a NIST traceability chain. The certificate shows that chain clearly.

Our internal procedure requires third-party audits every year. The lab environment is monitored for temperature, humidity, and vibration. Humidity stays between 45 percent and 65 percent RH.

Calibration Certificate and Traceability

Each calibration certificate includes serial number, pipe size, flow points, as-found data, as-left data, uncertainty, reference meter ID, technician name, and calibration date. If a meter shifts after adjustment, we record both values.

Customers in

the Middle East and Latin America use these certificates for custody transfer audits and ISO 9001 inspections. The certificate format is accepted by most third-party inspectors because it includes the traceability chain and lab accreditation number.

Typical Calibration Scenarios We See

A wastewater plant in the Philippines sent us a DN500 meter with electrode coating. The meter read 3.2 percent low at 400 m3/h. We cleaned the electrodes, ran a five point calibration, and the meter returned to 0.4 percent accuracy.

A seawater desalination plant in Saudi Arabia needed a DN200 meter for brine flow. The conductivity was 52,000 µS/cm. We calibrated the meter at 20,000 µS/cm and documented the expected shift at higher conductivity. The site engineer used that data for commissioning.

A paint manufacturer in Southeast Asia ordered a DN25 PTFE lined meter for solvent batching. The flow range was 0.2 m3/h to 2.5 m3/h. We calibrated the meter at 0.2, 1.0, and 2.5 m3/h. The as-left error stayed below 0.3 percent.

How to Request a Calibration or Certified Flow Meter

Send us the pipe size (DN), flow range in m3/h, pressure in bar, temperature in °C, conductivity in µS/cm, and the process medium. We will reply with a calibration scope, lead time, and price. You can also ask for a calibration only if you already have a Silver Instruments meter.

FAQ

Q: What standards does the calibration lab follow?

A: We follow ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for lab competence and use ISO 20456:2017 plus OIML R 49-1:2013 for test methods. Traceability goes to a national metrology institute.

Q: What pipe sizes and flow rates can you calibrate?

A: We calibrate DN15 to DN600 electromagnetic flow meters. The flow range is 0.05 m3/h to 3,000 m3/h. Larger sizes can be arranged on a case by case basis.

Q: What is included in the calibration certificate?

A: The certificate includes serial number, model, pipe size, flow points, as-found data, as-left data, uncertainty, reference standard ID, technician name, and calibration date.

Q: Do you calibrate customer supplied flow meters or only new meters from Silver Instruments?

A: We calibrate both. New meters get a factory certificate. Customer supplied meters receive an incoming inspection, cleaning if needed, and the same calibration procedure.

Q: How long does calibration take and how do I get a quote?

A: Standard calibration takes 3 to 5 working days after we receive the meter. Send your pipe size, flow range, pressure, temperature, and conductivity to get a quote. Use Tel: +86-25-68650347, Whatsapp: +86-25-52155837, or WeChat: +86 15365082610.
